4.3 Action: Industry to supply DFO with advice on updating TOR by end of May. Completed draft will then be circulated amongst industry through Mary Ellen Walling

4.5 Action: Updated FAIAP Terms of Reference to be presented at next FAIAP meeting

4.9 DFO to work with JTC membership to find a suitable date within 6 weeks for the next JTC meeting to take place and DFO to set up meeting

5.0 Discussion on Industry Priorities and DFO Response

5.1 There was discussion surrounding DFO’s response to the industry association’s priorities document put forward at the April 30, 2012 FAIAP meeting.

Action: Corey Jackson to bring together a team of industry members and DFO staff to focus on looking at ways of improving the aquaculture industry competitiveness and growth in British Columbia.

Action: Corey Jackson to work with a team of industry members and DFO staff to develop a strategy to address the current aquaculture licence amendments and develop a way forward for the future process for aquaculture licence amendments.

6.0 Discussion on Suite II Policies for the BC Aquaculture Regulatory Program (BCARP)

6.1 Presentation on Suite II Policies for the BC Aquaculture Regulatory Program (BCARP) presented by Guy Beaupr

6.2 There was discussion surrounding the purpose and process surrounding the development of the Suite II Policies for the BC Aquaculture Regulatory Program (BCARP)

Action: Industry members to review Suite II Policies for the BC Aquaculture Regulatory Program (BCARP) and provide comments to Mary Ellen Walling for collation. Comments to be provided back to Guy Beaupr, Eric Gilbert and Diana Trager by August 17, 2012.

7.0 Discussion Regarding Aquaculture Advisory Process/Working Committees

7.1 There was discussion surrounding the Aquaculture Management Advisory Committees (AMACs), including the proposed process, proposed membership and the participation of the aquaculture industry association members in the process.

Action: Industry members to discuss the Aquaculture Management Advisory Committees proposed process and provide DFO with written response on how they see themselves engaging in the process. This response is to be provided to Diana Trager before the next Finfish Aquaculture Industry Advisory Panel (FAIAP) Meeting.

8.0 Discussion on FAIAP Terms of Reference (TOR)

8.1 There was discussion surrounding the draft Terms of Reference (TOR) for Finfish Aquaculture Industry Advisory Panel (FAIAP). The industry members suggested the following:

  • Addition of Susan Farlinger, Regional Director General, Pacific Region to the membership of the Finfish Aquaculture Industry Advisory Panel
  • A specific reference to the relationship between the Finfish Aquaculture Industry Advisory Panel and the Joint Technical Committee (refer to items IV and V in the draft Terms of Reference)

Action: Bernie Taekema to work with FAIAP membership to finalize draft Terms of Reference so that they can be signed at the next Finfish Aquaculture Industry Advisory Panel (FAIAP) Meeting.

9.0 Schedule of FAIAP and Working Group Meeting Dates

9.1 The next Finfish Aquaculture Industry Advisory Panel (FAIAP) Meeting will be held on October 16, 2012 at the DFO offices in Vancouver, BC

9.2 Suggested items for discussion at the July 31st JTC meeting include:

  • Joint Technical Committee (JTC) Terms of Reference (TOR)
  • Direction from Finfish Aquaculture Industry Advisory Panel (FAIAP) to Joint Technical Committee (JTC)
  • Review of Marine Finfish Aquaculture conditions of licence
  • Review of and input into Integrated Management of Aquaculture Plan (IMAP)
  • Development of Aquaculture Management Advisory Committee (AMAC) agenda
  • BC aquaculture industry competitiveness and growth

9.3 The next Joint Technical Committee (JTC) Meeting will be held on July 31, 2012 at: (Bernie Taekema to input location of meeting)

10.0 Roundtable

Mary Ellen Walling:

  • The BC Salmon Farmers Association (BCSFA) Infectious Hematopoietic Necrosis Virus (IHNV) viral management strategy is still in place and the industry continues to be vigilant in testing and awareness for the virus
  • The BC Salmon Farmers Association (BCSFA) will resume public tours of aquaculture sites in the near future
