Offshore Pacific Area of Interest advisory committee
Why we are consulting
We brought the Offshore Pacific Area of Interest advisory committee was brought together in September 2017 to consult on the proposal to designate the Offshore Pacific Area of Interest (AOI), now known as the Tang.ɢwan – ḥačxwiqak – Tsig̱is Area of Interest (TḥT AOI), as a Marine Protected Area (MPA).
Who we are consulting with
This committee is built with representation from Indigenous groups, federal, provincial and local governments, and stakeholders including fishing, conservation and academia.
What is the focus of this consultation
Some of the key tasks of the Offshore Pacific Area of Interest advisory committee are to:
- provide input and feedback on biophysical, socio-economic and resource assessments
- provide advice on key issues, and risks
- advise on the development of the regulatory intent
- inform engagement planning related to the proposed MPA designation
When
The advisory committee will be in effect until the Tang.ɢwan – ḥačxwiqak – Tsig̱is Marine Protected Area designation.
