Darkblotched Rockfish Consultations

Consultation Summary

In November 2009, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) assessed Darkblotched Rockfish as Special Concern. This species is being considered for listing as Special Concern under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). Regional consultations were conducted to gather public feedback on this potential listing under SARA.

Regional consultations were held online from October 11th to November 30th, 2011. Online comment forms were available to the public to submit comments. Listing information was presented at the Groundfish Forum meeting on October 11th in Nanaimo, BC. Letters were emailed to the Province of British Columbia, environmental interest groups, and stakeholder groups in the species’ range. Letters were also mailed, faxed, and emailed to First Nation groups, and included the opportunity for a bilateral meeting. One comment in favour of listing Darkblotched Rockfish as Special Concern was received.
