Dolly Varden (northern form)

Consultation Summary

In April 2010, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) assessed Dolly Varden (Northern form) as Special Concern. This species is being considered for listing as Special Concern under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). Regional consultations were conducted in both the Yukon and Northwest Territories to gather public feedback on this potential listing under SARA.

Pacific region’s (BC and Yukon) consultations were held online from November 4th to December 16th, 2011. Online comment forms were available to the public to submit comments. Letters were faxed and emailed to the Province of British Columbia, Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board, environmental interest groups, and stakeholder groups in the species’ range. Letters were also mailed, faxed, and emailed to First Nation groups, and included the opportunity for a bilateral meeting. Two comments in favour of listing Dolly Varden (Northern form) as Special Concern were received.
