Rocky Mountain Ridged Mussel

Consultation Summary

In November 2010, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) re-assessed Rocky Mountain Ridged Mussel as Endangered. This species is currently listed as Special Concern under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). This species is being considered for listing as Endangered under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). Regional consultations were conducted to gather public feedback on this potential listing under SARA.

Regional Consultations were held online from October 14, 2011 to November 30, 2011. Online comment forms were available to the public to submit comments. Listing information was presented at a meeting held on October 18th in Penticton, British Columbia, and a total of 12 different representative groups attended. Letters were emailed out to the Province of British Columbia, environmental interest groups, and stakeholder groups in the species’ range. Letters were also mailed, emailed, and faxed out to First Nations groups with an opportunity for a bilateral meeting. A total of 20 comments were received; eight comments in favour of listing as endangered, nine against listing as endangered, and three neutral or undecided comments.
