Welcome to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit

The GIS Unit provides GIS services to support the protection and conservation of fish and fish habitat in the Pacific Region. Through the combination of GIS datasets, tools and procedures, the unit performs a wide range of activities including:

• technology implementation and deployment
• the development of spatial data sets
• ongoing construction and management of a spatial data warehouse
• the development of desktop and internet mapping applications
• spatial analysis
• publication of maps
• technical training and support
• project management
• co-ordination of GIS activities with other government agencies and within DFO.
