Contract for major winter work at the Big Bar landslide awarded

Peter Kiewit Sons ULC has been awarded a contract to undertake winter rock remediation work at the Big Bar landslide site. The contractor is now mobilizing equipment to the site and plans to begin work in the coming week.

Remediation work will include:

• Construction of an access route to the site;
• Rock scaling, reinforcement and meshing to mitigate rock fall;
• Drilling and blasting of the “east toe,” a rock outcrop on the east bank of the river, to reduce water velocity and height barriers for migrating salmon; and
• Drilling and blasting to remove of obstructing rocks from the river channel.

Work is expected to be complete by March 2020.
