RESEARCH
INTERESTS
Currently (Sept, 2000), in my capacity as a Research Associate with Rick Thomson, my research work is spread over three main areas: As a continuation of my Ph. D., I am involved in research into nonlinear interactions between internal waves, specifically those of semidiurnal and inertial frequencies in order to understand the pathways of mechanical energy flux through the ocean. I am also participating in a field program in Juan de Fuca Strait, where I am working on the technical aspects of deploying a upward-looking bottom mounted ADCP (acoustic Doppler current profiler). Using the data generated by the ADCP, a conventional mooring array and hydro surveys, my immediate research involves the generation and propagation of internal tides and their effect on the circulation dynamics as well as the mean estuarine dynamics. The third area I tread upon is using acoustic backscatter to characterize zooplankton aggregation dynamics over the Endeavour Ridge hydrothermal venting site.
