Composite Herring Spawn Maps
Select a map from the pull down menu...
Herring spawn depositions have been digitized using ArcView and are shown on 101 section maps of British Columbia (BC). Multi-coloured polygons represent overlays of successive spawning years (1930-2002). See cumulative spawn analysis for total spawn along each kilometre since 1928.
Composite maps (1531 x 1173 jpg) may exceed browser window size, triggering automatic rescaling and forcing a reduction in image quality. To disable image scaling using Microsoft Internet Explorer: Select Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, scroll down to Multimedia and uncheck "Enable Automatic Image Resizing". Click "Apply" to maintain image quality and size. This needs to be done only once.
Spawn polygons in prominent BC herring sections have been assembled into animations. Spawning beds of each year will display every 2 seconds...
1956 to 2002: Nanoose Bay = Section 172.
