Track your fishing expenditures
The plain text form on this page is for your information only. Depending on your browser settings, you may need to right click on the document link and select a ‘save’ option.
Use this form to keep track of your fishing activity and expenditures over the 2023-24 fishing season, so it is easier to complete your iSEA survey accurately. Using this form is not required and this form does not take place of catch records of chinook, halibut and lingcod you are required to record on your licence.
Survey questions about fishing activities
You will be asked to click up to 5 fishing locations per month on a map. You will be able to zoom in and out. Specific locations (e.g., a particular bay or inlet) are not necessary, just approximate locations. See the map on the next page for an example of the survey map.
The following table identifies the main pieces of information the survey collects. You are asked to report your individual activity. The survey asks for monthly and annual counts, but the table allows for trip level tracking, should you find this helpful.
Trip | Start date | End date | Number of days fished | Species targetted | Notes: Where did you fish, how many did you catch and how many did you keep of each species? Was the target species of the trip chinook or another salmon species? What type of trip: shore-based, private boat no guide, private boat with guide or hired/charter boat with guide? |

Survey questions about spending
Spending questions are not specific to a certain trip, but ask for the total amount spent over the entire fishing year. These questions are for your entire household, not just yourself. You will be asked about 3 types of spending: major expenditures, fishing packages purchased, and trip expenditures. The tables below capture the information the survey will gather.
Expenditures that are not trip specific are considered major expenditures. You will be asked to enter amounts for each category, as well as the approximate % of the amount that is associated with recreational tidal fishing. For example, you may have purchased a boat. If your intention is to use the boat for tidal fishing 30% of the time and 70% of the time for other reasons, you would enter 30%.
Major expenditure categories | Spending | % for fishing | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Fishing equipment (e.g., rods, fish finders) | $ | ||

Vehicles (e.g., 4X4s, car or truck) | $ | ||

Fishing package purchases are spending on a trip inclusive of multiple services (e.g., boat, guide, accomodation, equipment, transportation, meals). These are usually sourced from a lodge, guide or outfitter. You will be asked for the total cost of each package you purchased, the region it took place and to select the different services included.
