User guide: Commercial fisheries fast facts - annual trends dashboard

The Commercial fisheries fast facts - Annual trends dashboard shows the annual values of the following metrics over a number of years:

• number of active vessels by fishery
• landed values and weights landed by fishery
• average landed values and weights landed per vessel by fishery

You can use it to see trends in these metrics broken down by fishery. All values are shown in kilograms per year or Canadian dollars that have been adjusted for inflation.

For the best experience, make sure that your default web browser settings are set to the language of your choice.

The Filters box

The “Filters box” has the following search options:

• Fishery group: shows the main species group targeted by the fishery
• Fishery name: describes the fishery including gear and methods used

At least one fishery group and fishery name must be selected for the dashboard to produce results. Results will always be displayed by individual fishery name and year. Data for all available years will be shown in the chart.

Search for options

To search for options under a fishery group or fishery name:

• Scroll through the options using the scroll bar; or
• Enter an option in the search box. Note that this does not select the option. If the fishery that you are looking for appears, you can clear the search box and select this option by following the instructions below.

Select options

To select all options under a fishery group or fishery name:

• Check "Select All".

To select only one option under a fishery group or fishery name:

• Uncheck "Select All".
• Check the option that you are interested in.

To select all fisheries licenced under one fishery group:

• Check “Select All” under Fishery name.
• Check only the Fishery group you are interested in.

To select one species when you don’t know the fishery group it belongs to:

• Check “Select All” under the fishery group.
• Check only the Fishery name you are interested in.

Find trends for values and weights landed and number of active vessels

To find trends for values and weights landed and number of active vessels for a given fishery:

1. In the "Filters box", select the options that you are interested in.
   1. Select the fishery group(s) you are interested in.
   2. Select the fishery name(s) you are interested in.
2. If you want to focus on one fishery only, but still see it in context with the other fisheries, you can select multiple fishery names in the filters box and then select one fishery only in the legend below the filters. You cannot generate a chart that covers only one year – the trends dashboard is designed to show all available years.
3. Hover over a bar on the chart to view to view the desired metric for a particular fishery and year.
