All Areas

A reminder to all tidal water salmon anglers that the possession limit for all species of salmon combined is twice the daily limit. Listed on 19/07/2007 FN0473

Areas 11 to 29

Sockeye: Effective 23:59 hours Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 and until further notice: daily limit for Fraser sockeye will be reduced to zero (0) in all waters listed in FN0784. Area 23 still remains open for the harvest of sockeye as per Fishery Notice FN0447Listed 16/09/2011 FN0901

Sockeye: Fraser River Sockeye update. Listed on 16/09/2011 FN0908

Sockeye: Aug. 25 until further notice: the daily limit for sockeye is four (4) per day in:

  • Areas 11 and 111
  • Area 12
  • Area 13 (Johnstone Strait);
  • Areas 14, 15, 17, 18 and 19 (Strait of Georgia);
  • Area 20 (Juan de Fuca Strait);
  • Areas 21, 121 and 123 to 127 (West Coast of Vancouver Island). Note: Area 23 (Barkley Sound and Alberni Inlet) is open to retention of Somass sockeye ( see FN0447);
  • Area 28 (Howe Sound, Burrard Inlet and Indian Arm);
  • Area 29 (Strait of Georgia and the tidal waters of the Fraser), except Subarea 29-8 (Boundary Bay)

Sockeye retention is not permitted in the following areas:

  • Area 16 - remains closed and at this time there is no proposed opening of Subareas 16-19 to 21 (Sabine Channel);
  • Area 22 - In Nitinat Lake;
  • Areas 24 to 27 inclusive;
  • Subarea 29-8 (Boundary Bay)

Area 23

Sockeye: Subarea 23-1: in a portion of Subarea 23-1 from the Harbour mouth of the Somass River to the Tidal boundary signs at Papermill Dam:

  • In portions of Area 23, Barkley Sound and Alberni Inlet: daily limit of four (4) sockeye (see FN0447).
  • In the tidal portions of the Somass River to Papermill Dam: daily limit of two (2) sockeye in that portion of Subarea 23-1 which includes the lower Somass River from a line commencing at a boundary sign in upper Alberni Harbour situated at 49°14.19 north latitude and 124°50.23 west longitude thence through the southern most point of Hoik Island thence to the flashing green light at the mouth of the Somass River thence due east to a boundary sign on the opposite shore and to a line at the tidal boundary markers at Paper Mill Dam on the Somass River.

Chinook: Subareas 23-1 and 23-2: In those portions of Subareas 23-1 and 23-2 bounded on the south by a line from Hocking Point 66 degrees True to a marker on the eastern shore of Alberni Inlet and on the north by a line commencing at a boundary sign in upper Alberni Harbour situated at 49°14.19 north latitude and 124°50.23 west longitude thence through the southern most point of Hoik Island thence to the flashing green light at the mouth of the Somass River thence due east to a boundary sign on the opposite shore: Aug. 19, 2009 - further notice:  the daily limit will be two (2) Chinook with a minimum size of 45cm. Areas 24 to 27

Sockeye: Effective May 18, 2011: no fishing for Sockeye. Listed on 16/05/2011 FN0399

Area 24

Coho:  Subareas 24-1, 24-3, 24-4, 24-5, 24-7,24-12, 24-13, 24-14 and portions of Subareas 24-2, 24-6, 24-10 and 24-11 remain closed to the retention of Coho. Listed on 25/05/2011 FN0411

Area 28

Reminder: Further to FN0752, recreational fishers are reminded that no angling is permitted within any of the Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCAs). In the RCAs, the only permitted fishing activities are: invertebrates by hand picking or dive, crab by trap, shrimp/prawn by trap and smelt by gill net. Sockeye: Clarification to the summary of all recreational opportunities in Areas 28 and 29 and Region 2: Further to notices FN0751, FN0752 and FN0754, the aggregate daily limit (total daily limit) for Sockeye Salmon for all waters combined, tidal and non-tidal, is two (2). Pink: Subareas 28-1 to 28-5 (Howe Sound): July 30, 2011 until further notice: the daily limit for pink salmon is two per day. Listed on 29/07/2011 FN0641

Pink: Subareas 28-6, 28-7, 28-9 and 28-11 to 28-14 (portions of Area 28, Burrard Inlet and Indian Arm: Effective immediately until further notice, the daily limit for pink salmon is four (4) per day. Listed on 19/07/2011 FN0588

Coho: Subareas 28-11 to 28-14 (Burrard Inlet East): in Subareas 28-11 to 28-14 (Burrard Inlet east of Second Narrows/Iron Workers Memorial Bridge, Indian Arm and Port Moody Arm): Oct. 1, 2011 - March 31, 2012: No Coho retention. Listed on 25/05/2011 FN0412

Area 29

Chum: Area 29 except Subareas 29-11 to 29-17 (the tidal waters of the Fraser River): until further notice: the daily limit for Chum salmon is four (4) per day. Listed 01/11/2011 FN1081

Sockeye: Further to FN0712, effective 00:01 hours, Tuesday, September 6, 2011 until further notice, in Area 29, including 29-11 to 29-17 (the tidal waters of the Fraser River) retention of sockeye is not permitted. Listed on 02/09/2011 FN0838

Summary of all recreational salmon opportunities in Subareas 29-11 to 29-17 (tidal waters of the Fraser River) and the non-tidal waters of the Fraser River in Region 2:

  • Sockeye Salmon: As of Sep. 6, no Sockeye retention in Area 29 FN0838
  • Chinook Salmon: Effective September 1, 2011: daily limit of four (4) per day, with only one being bigger than 62 cm.
  • Coho Salmon: The retention of Coho Salmon is not permitted at this time.
