There are many species of finfish in British Columbia's Tidal Waters.
Immediately prior to fishing, please consult the
Finfish Opportunities
page for updated openings and closures.
You may also check with your local DFO office for updates, or call 604-666-2828.
Recreational fishers are required to hold a British Columbia Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence to harvest finfish in tidal waters.
You must immediately record in ink on your licence all lingcod retained from Areas 11, 12 and 20.
Some gear restrictions apply when fishing for certain species of shellfish. Anglers are responsible for knowing and following those restrictions. Please visit Fishing and the Law for information.
It is illegal to use gear on a line designed to catch more than one fish at a time, except when fishing for herring, or in the tidal portion of the Fraser River.
It is illegal to use a "setline" (a fishing line left unattended in the water).
Daily limits vary according to area and species.
Check the Finfish Limits table before you
go fishing.
It is recommended that you do not consume liver from bottomfish caught near coastal pulp mills due to possible dioxin and furan contamination. Muscle tissue (fillets) of all coastal bottomfish and other finfish species is not affected.
