DFO convened a scientific panel of experts to review the situation of the lone killer whale (L98) in Nootka sound and assess the risks associated with intervening or leaving him alone. The panel is comprised of Canadian and US, government and non-government experts with specialization in the fields of killer whale biology, behaviour, genetics, veterinary medicine, rehabilitation and protection.
