On
March 7, 2003 the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans
announced the Endeavour Hydrothermal Vents as
the first Marine Protected Area under the Oceans
Act.
The
Endeavour Hydrothermal Vents Marine Protected
Area designation under the Oceans Act represents
an important step in the protection of a unique
biodiverse hydrothernmal vent ecosystem. In an
effort to provide a virtual information centre,
this site was created to provide information regarding
the following:
- legislation,
policy and management,
- descriptions
of the Endeavour area and
- links
to other information sources on Endeavour.
The
site was developed for researchers, advisors and
the general public.
