RESEARCH INTERESTS
I've been called a low-temperature marine inorganic biogeochemist, but I don't like to limit myself. My fundamental interests lie in the roles the oceans play in planetary evolution and global change, and my research has ranged from hard-core analytical technique development to climate feedback mechanisms. Some of my more interesting projects include: Carbon cycling in arctic waters and response to climate changeCarbon drawdown and export in northeast Pacific Haida Eddies Geochemistry of the sea surface microlayer and its influence on air-sea gas exchange

Rest of the Group
The Centre for Ocean Climate Chemistry at IOS was founded by C.S. Wong and besides myself, includes master wizards Keith Johnson and Frank Whitney, overseeing a team of salty chemists who can measure or fix anything: Mike Arychuck (plumber), Janet Barwell-Clark (dungeon priestess), Marty Davelaar (mercury poisoning), Val Forsland (the only one who knows what's in the sample archive), John Page (corporate memory), Wendy Richardson (precision expert), Nes Sutherland (life at the detection limit), and Linda White (fixes the CHN analyzer). Carol Hagel officially pushes paper around for C.S., but she also fixes my computer when I break it and gives me chocolate. I've also had a number of post-docs pass through, including:
and we're currently sharing a master's student, Owen Owens, with the University of Manitoba. As a team, this group also collects water-column carbon data in the IOS Line P and Arctic time series. Publications |
