The Argo Logo Page

In the Argonautics Newsletter Number 7 John Gould presented a discussion about the name of the program "ARGO" or "Argo". He wanted to emphasize that the name is not an acronym, and so should be spelled with a Capital "A" and then lower case letters in just the same way that one would write a name like Howard or John. One place where this rule was regularly violated is on the logo, so we have redesigned the logo to accomodate this ruling.

It was not possible to keep the curved letters because a lower-case letter "g" has a descender or tail attached to it. When only that extends into the yellow disc it looks poor and unprofessional. The solution was to write "Argo" horizontally and level and allow much of the name to penetrate, then add contrast with a white shadow effect.
