Argo Float Movies

Trajectories: Click here for a series of movies illustrating the trajectories of Argo floats in various ocean basins. Last updated 2nd November 2009.

An artist's impression of the drift of a profiling float. 25.4MByte. This avi file was made available by the avi wizards at Scripps Inst of Oceanography. This version includes a sound track.

As above without sound. 12.8MByte. This is the same as argo.avi above, except that the sound track has been stripped out (by Howard Freeland).

Deployment of a float from a C-130 aircraft: . This is displayed at 320x240 resolution and the file is 8.3M Bytes. For slow connections, click here for a zipped version of the same movie air_la2.zip which is 6.2MBytes.

The images of the air drop were derived from video footage generously made available to Argo by Webb Research, and digitised through the offices of Dr Stan Wilson, Deputy Chief Scientist, NOAA. Thanks to Tom Silva at WHOI for the Argo animation, and Webb Research for the float. air drop.
