Usage notes
Estimates of official commercial fishing data in this application are available for ease of use and accessibility.
The data includes metrics on major fisheries from DFO logbook and DFO sales slip databases. Depending on data availability, some fisheries have been excluded and may be lower than the totals available in the official statistics, for example herring and terminal salmon fisheries. Data have been aggregated for privacy reasons, and all unallocated activity is designated as unspecified, where applicable.
Estimates of socio-economic contributions to GDP, jobs, and wages are calculated using Input/Output multipliers found in 2 reports:
- British Columbia’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector, 2016 Edition, BCStats, November 2018
- British Columbia’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector, 2012 Edition, BCStats, January 2013
