Map of management measures in Swiftsure Bank to support Southern Resident killer whale recovery

• June 1 to November 30: Vessel speed limited to no more than 10 knots (with some exceptions) in the Speed Restricted Zones located in portions of Subareas 21-0, 121-1 and 121-2.
• June 1 to October 31: The ECHO Program Swiftsure Bank voluntary ship slowdown for large commercial vessels: 11 knots or less through the water for bulkers, tankers and government vessels or 14.5 knots or less through the water for container vessels, vehicle carriers, cruise ships.
• July 15 Until October 31: No recreational or commercial fishing for salmon in a portion of Area 21 and Subareas 20-1, 121-1 and 121-2.

Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCAs) are established throughout the BC coast. Within RCAs, inshore rockfish are protected from mortality associated with recreational and commercial fisheries.
