About us
Completed in 1968, the Gates Creek Spawning Channel has been operated by a number of different government and non-government organizations. Currently the spawning channel is operated by the First Nations group N’Quatqua Fisheries Inc. The channel was established in response to declining populations of sockeye in the watershed. Since then, the spawning channel has offset the decline and has gradually increased sockeye salmon numbers. The channel, at slightly less than two kilometres in length, has a capacity of 20,000 adult salmon. Recent returns to the watershed range from 3,000 to 100,000 adults. The site is one kilometre upstream from Anderson Lake, whose water can be used to keep the channel’s water temperatures optimal in the winter.

Directions
The spawning channel is located in Devine, just south of D'Arcy. Turn right at the cemetery and old church about 37 kilometres from the highway junction in Mount Currie. Cross the one-lane bridge and the spawning channel is immediately on the right.
