Guidance for reporting of sea lice events
Sea lice abundance threshold
Means the threshold specified in condition of licence 6.5 as determined by a single counting event or all pen counting event. In the event three pens can not be sampled, calculate the mean sampling average with the data available.
Incident date
For any counting event or all pen counting event, as specified in conditions of licence, the date on which the final pen was sampled, as per Appendix 13.
Migration window
The time of year in relation to juvenile salmon outmigration; non-migration July 1-January 31, pre-migration February 1-29, out-migration March 1-June 30.
Occurrence category
Specifies the primary reason for the sea lice notification or counting event, including threshold exceedance, pre-migration sampling or pre/post treatment sampling.
Secondary occurrence category
pecifies additional reasons for sea lice sampling and reporting where the counting event satisfies requirements of more than one category. Example: a pre-treatment counting event could also satisfy requirements of over-threshold follow-up sampling, or pre-migration sampling could result in an over threshold notification.
Pen ID
Identifies the pen from which the fish were sampled.
Reference pen
Specifies if the pen is identified as a reference pen as per Appendix 13.
Pen treated
Specifies if treatment was applied to the specific pen. Post-treatment abundance will be calculated using all pens while treatment efficacy will be determined using only treated pens.
Counting event start date
For any counting event or all pen counting event as specified in conditions of licence, the date on which the first pen was sampled, as per Appendix 13. Note: data from only one counting event should be included in each reporting template.
Pen sample date
The date on which the sampling of the specific pen occurred.
Number of fish sampled
The number of fish that were sampled from the specific pen.
Sampling method
The method by which the fish were collected for sea lice sampling.
Adult females l. salmonis
The total number of adult female L. salmonis counted on all fish from the specifc pen.
Motile l. salmonis
The total number of motile L. salmonis counted on all fish from the specifc pen, including both female and other motiles.
Chalimus
The total number of chalimus stage sea lice (all species) counted on all fish from the specifc pen.
Motile caligus
The total number of motile C. clemensi counted on all fish from the specifc pen.
Current inventory
The number of fish at the facility on the incident date.
Average motile lice
The average number of motile L. salmonis per fish at a facility, calculated as per monitoring protocols set out in Appendix 13 (Do not enter, autopopulated based on pen level data entered into template).
Absolute sea lice inventory
The estimated number of motile L. salmonis at a facility (do not enter, autopopulated based on the current inventory and average motile lice).
Over threshold (y/n)
Identifies whether the sea lice sampling results indicate exceedance of the sea lice management threshold, as specified in conditions of licence. (Do not enter, autopopulated based on pen level data entered into template).
Planned mitigation category
The category of mitigation planned in response to the sea lice abundance threshold exceedance.
Planned mitigation start date
The planned or actual start date of a sea lice mitigation event. For pre-treatment counting events, enter the planned start date of mitigation. For post-treatment counting events enter the actual start date of the sea lice mitigation event.
Mitigation end date
The actual end date of a sea lice mitigation event. For pre-treatment counting events, it is not necessary to enter the planned end date. For post-treatment counting events enter the actual end date of the sea lice mitigation event.
Mitigation description
Describe in detail the mitigation measures planned i.e.) type of treatment, planned start date, etc.
Comments
Any additional information necessary to fully describe the threshold exceedance and planned mitigation, including details pertaining to environmental conditions.
