Know before you go

  • The Government of Canada has created Interim Sanctuary Zones (ISZ) off the coasts of Pender and Saturna Islands.
  • Vessels and fishing are not permitted inside these zones (indicated in red on the maps).
  • It’s the law – penalties for violations may apply.
  • Human-powered vessels (kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards, etc.) may use a 20 m transit corridor along the shoreline.

Some exceptions apply, including

  • Vessels accessing local residences and establishments.
  • Vessels in distress or providing assistance.
  • Vessels avoiding immediate or unforeseen danger.
  • Indigenous peoples exercising existing rights.
